Belorado>San Juan de Ortega

Got up at 4:15 and had 1st breakfast of 2 yogurts and a tin of tuna. On the trail by 5:00, had to navigate by headlamp for about 15 minutes. It’s worth it to stay out of the heat. Watched an amazing full moon drop below the horizon. The sun cleared the mountains behind me just past 7:00. Those two hours are just about perfect. Made good time but it was almost completely uphill today. Awesome change of terrain, red soil soil with big round stones, pine and ferns. Stopped for second breakfast of jet pack and croissant. Talked with the Parker family and got a link for bike rental in Burgos! I might rent a bike to cover a big chunk of the meseta to Leon, it seems like a lot of pilgrims choose this as an option. I’m loving the idea because it looks like I’ll cover the entire camino and get a rest day somewhere between Leon and Sarria. Made plans to meet two new friends, Patricia and Richard in Burgos for dinner. Off the trail and staying in a nice casa rural. I have a private bath today so super long shower and got to wash all my clothes!

  1. Great to see the video and see your new friends. The towns you show are awesome compared to ours. So provincial in a nice way. Also, awesome churches in the towns. Inspiring to see.
