Pamplona>Puenta la Reina

Puenta la Reina
Captains log, star date 06242015. The lodging has dramatically improved. I got an excellent nights sleep in the space ship cubicle. I slept with peace of mind with my gear stowed in the cubicles locker, I even had my own light and outlet! It was quiet and I could just barely lay flat sleeping diagonally. I got a solid 8 hours of sleep and was out the door at 6:00. Walking through the city in the morning was a peaceful contrast to the crowded streets of the night before. The trail was blazed with metal markers in the street that made navigation easy. I could just make out the wind turbines on the ridge of Alto del Perdon as Pamplona quickly transitioned to countryside. The day was a sharp contrast to yesterday’s cool shaded forest paths. It got hot quickly and stayed that way all day. I stayed on top of hydration, I drank about 5L of water on the trail. I reached Alto Del Perdon at 10:00 and had an apple, banana, and a hard boiled egg. I also secured a private room (€15 as opposed to €11 in the common bunk area) at the Santiago Apostol Albergue in Puente La Reina. The rest of the day rolled through more farmland through the small villages of Uterga and Obanos. I arrived in in Puenta La Reina and had a big lunch of Pulpo, red peppers, anchovy, crab salad, an amazing roasted green pepper and black sausage dish, and chorizo and cheese. The food here is amazing. I packed up and visited the church and walked across the bridge exiting the city. The Albergue was up a huge hill that squashed any thoughts of walking back to town for dinner. I checked in and went through the evening routine. Dinner was fuel: a big salad with tuna and steamed white fish. The photo today is looking back at the cathedral in Puente la Reina taken just before sunset. I’m wiped out, I’m going to bed! Goodnight!
