Madrid / Die Hard I

Our hotel is like any other airport hotel / conference center with two awesome exceptions. It is being renovated and almost completely empty. You have to walk about a kilometer to get anywhere through long halls of construction lights and ceilings of raw wire and air ducts. It looks exactly like the set from the movie Die Hard. For those not familiar with these movies, Bruce Willis plays John McClane (my user name on Pinterest!) a edgy police detective in the wrong place at the wrong time. Long story short, John shoots bad guys in a high rise office building under renovation. I had to resist the urge to yell “Schieß dem Fenster, shoot the glass!” to a couple of guys stick welding in blue jumpsuits on the scaffolding a couple floors down. This is a quote from the film, and would have been really inappropriate.
We hopped a bus, to the metro train station downtown this morning. The city is amazing! It’s literally oozing with style. I look like a bum in my Camino duds. Mona looks amazing in a blue polka dot dress. We found an awesome t-shirt shop where we spent 1/2 hour picking out the coolest t-shirts I’ve ever seen for our nieces and nephew. I hope they like them, they are incredibly cool. Abby, if your reading this, I picked out your shirt and I think it was the best in the shop. The young woman at the counter agreed! I hope you like it!!
We spent most of the day in the Prado museum. It’s hard to describe how incredible it is to get face to face with some incredible history and unfathomable talent. A photograph can’t convey the emotion of brush strokes on canvas.
We left the museum to get dinner and ended up at a great dim sum restaurant where we ate seaweed salad, dumplings and noodles. We got provisions at a supermarcato and then hopped a cab back to the hotel. Mona is at the pool, I’m blogging in the room. Life is amazing!

    1. Remember dry feet are happy feet! Take extra socks! Have fun! You should read into the woods by Bill Bryson. It’s a great story about hiking the AT. Will you be anywhere near springer mountain or Bly gap?

      1. I think we are! Our trip got switched last minute to hiking the northern section of Georgia near the Appalachian trail in the chattahoochee wilderness. We leave bright and early tomorrow morning. I’m really excited for this adventure! 🙂

  1. I just told Abby she made the blog….:) She is packing for her adventure to Georgia as I’m type this. You would be proud of her. She used your backpack with Stephen’s weights inside to help train for her wilderness trek.
