A little closure on the telemaster duo…
This project has been in the wings for a long time. A very talented student finished shooting sealer this morning, there getting ready for color later today ( Seagrave Nitro). Swamp ash (tele route) on the left is getting a burst. Poplar (tele bridge strat neck route) on the right is getting maize yellow. Lollar specials on the way….
WPAFB Time Lapse
Here’s some self assigned summer homework with the gopro. I was able to shoot a few time lapse sequences. Each shot was 15 minutes of continuous video (1080p @24 fps) and the speed was increased 2300% in post. The rotation of the camera was achieved by mounting the camera on top of a $10 ikea egg timer. With clouds its an awesome effect. I’m currently working on a dolly rig with a hobby motor controlled by arduino.
Took a couple days to drive to Dayton and visit the National Air Force Museum. I worked on my bike mobile rig with an evening of camping at the Dayton KOA. I had my first QRP QSO with Gill WB5CVC in Cedar Park Texas on 17 meters (10 watts with my kx3 and a buddipole)
621 miles
I completed my goal of running / walking 1 million meters (621 miles) across a year. I tracked my exercise with a fantastic app called zombies run. The app tracks your run and interjects a “radio drama” between songs on your playlist – where you are the main character. It also has a great interval training function where you have to outrun zombies. I’ve kept my focus on simply logging miles and enjoying the story. It’s been a great lesson in setting and tracking goals.
The app gives great feedback on your runs.
I’ve always believed in long slow distance training. Surprisingly a winter of long walks in hiking boots and 10 layers of clothing really kept me in shape, and I quickly ramped up my running miles as soon as the weather became tolerable in running shoes. I’ll see how I do in the capitol city half marathon.

I’m working on my final project for a digital painting course.
Atomic Disruptor Raygun
Here’s the project that led to my 15 minutes of Internet fame….
I’m a scifi fan and I’ve had the idea to build a raygun model tumbling around for a while. After a bountiful hamfest I found the key parts to build and across a weekend I fabricated a raygun model out of an old radio, 8mm movie projector, 35mm slide projector, camera parts, brass sheet stock and assorted rivets, screws, nuts, and bolts.
I photographed the camera in studio and posted to flickr and the makezine pool.
It was blogged on make magazine, and was gizmotos image of the day. and a handful of others sites – 28,000 hits on my flicker account over 24 hours.
About a week later Corey Doctrow blogged in on BoingBoing and kabam another 57,000 hits over a 24 hour period. WOW.
