WPAFB Time Lapse
Here’s some self assigned summer homework with the gopro. I was able to shoot a few time lapse sequences. Each shot was 15 minutes of continuous video (1080p @24 fps) and the speed was increased 2300% in post. The rotation of the camera was achieved by mounting the camera on top of a $10 ikea egg timer. With clouds its an awesome effect. I’m currently working on a dolly rig with a hobby motor controlled by arduino.
Took a couple days to drive to Dayton and visit the National Air Force Museum. I worked on my bike mobile rig with an evening of camping at the Dayton KOA. I had my first QRP QSO with Gill WB5CVC in Cedar Park Texas on 17 meters (10 watts with my kx3 and a buddipole)
Landoll’s Mohican Castle
A fun weekend getaway to Mohican State Park. We stayed at Landoll’s Mohican Castle. The castle is 10 years old and showing wear, interesting to see but not worth the price. Hiking at Mohican was great. We hiked Pleasant Trail to the Lions Falls trail, we liked it so much we walked it twice for a 6 mile trip.

HIKING TRAILS
Between Mohican State Park and Mohican Memorial State Forest, explorers looking to venture by foot will find a variety of one- and two-mile hiking trails that vary by degree of difficulty. For beautiful views of the lake, follow the Pleasant Hill Trail. To finish at the scenic wooden bridge, follow the Hemlock Gorge Trail.
*Hemlock Gorge and North Rim
This trail system runs from the front of the main camp area to the covered bridge. This is a 3 mile one-way walk that is easy to moderate.
Lyons Falls
This is our most popular trail, located at the covered bridge and the dam. This is a moderate to difficult 2 mile round trip trail.
*Hog Hollow Trail
This trail starts at the covered bridge and ends at the fire tower. This trail follows up the hillside to the fire tower and is a difficult trail.
Pleasant Hill Trail
This a family friendly 1.5 mile round trip hike along the river from the covered bridge to the Pleasant Hill dam. Trail is easy.
KC-135R Ohio National Guard Flight
I had an amazing opportunity to take a flight on a KC-135R with the Ohio National Guard. We flew to Beckley WV and the into Illinois. On the way we refueled a Lockheed C5B galaxy.

Farmhouse b&b after a day in yellow springs
Austrian Recipes / Food from the trip
- 1 pound small fingerling potatoes, washed
- 2 sprigs fresh thyme
- 2½ tablespoons kosher salt
- 1 small yellow onion, finely chopped
- 3 tablespoons sugar
- ½ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
- 1 cup white wine vinegar
- ¼ cup canola, safflower, or peanut oil
- ½ cup chicken broth or vegetable broth
- 1 tablespoon finely chopped fresh parsley leaves or chives
- In a large saucepan, combine the potatoes, thyme sprigs, and 2 tablespoons of the salt. Add enough cold water to cover completely. Bring to a boil over high heat. Reduce the heat to maintain a simmer and cook until the potatoes are just tender enough to be pierced easily with a skewer or the tip of a sharp knife, about 10 minutes.
- Drain the potatoes. While they are still hot, peel them with a small, sharp knife, protecting your hand from the heat with a folded kitchen towel. As each potato is peeled, cut it crosswise into ¼-inch slices, letting the slices fall into a mixing bowl.
- Add to the hot potato slices the onion, remaining salt, sugar, pepper, vinegar, and oil. Stir gently but thoroughly with a large spoon to combine the ingredients.
- Before serving, heat the broth in a large saute pan over medium-high heat. Add the potato salad and stir it gently just until the potatoes are thoroughly heated. Garnish with parsley or chives and serve immediately.
